Tabuan Heights residents against construction of telecommunication tower in their area
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) Chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached by by over 127 residents staying at Tabuan Heights residential area for his assistance to convey their strong protest against the construction of the telecommunication tower adjacent to a Sesco Sub Station at Lorong Song 3.
The residents had complained that the construction of the said 30 metre tower appeared to have contravened the Minimum Setback Requiremennts for Telecommunication Structures in Sarawak as it does not comply with the minimum 15 metre requirement to two (2) parcels of private residential land (whose consent from landowners have not been obtained) and the minimum 10 metre requirement to the nearest commercial building.
The residents had also opposed the construction of the said telecommunication tower due to its radiation health hazard and the safety aspect due to the threat of lightning striking the substation arising from the height of the telecommunication tower.
The protest of the affected residents have been conveyed to Sarawak Multimedia Authority and highlighted to the Ministry of Urban Development & Natural Resources Sarawak (State Planning Authority), Land & Survey Department and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
