Milton questions Chong’s political stand
Before GE14, leaders from Pakatan Harapan Sarawak had constantly attacked many federal policies or laws as unfair and injustice to Sarawak. However after 9 May, their true colours have been uncovered and some have become the spokesman for their leaders from Malaya at the expense of the rights and interests of Sarawak.
In a recent statement, Milton Foo, SUPP Youth Secretary General, said Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen yesterday defended the Minister of Education Dr Maszlee Malik over his comment that using English as the medium of instruction would be illegal as it contravenes the Federal Constitution, the National Language Act and the Education Act.
YB Irene Chang who is DAP Bukit Assek ADUN had however expressed her disapproval on the stance against the use of English as a medium of instruction in the schools of Sarawak.
Instead of defending and upholding the interests for the people of Sarawak, Chong is only keen on defending his Malaya counterparts and perhaps his deputy ministerial portfolio.
It is the duty of the elected MP to put question and debate on the issues affecting the interests of the people at large in Parliament, how could YB Chong accuse Batang Sadong MP YB Nancy Shukri of trying to trap the Minister of Education Dr. Mazlee Malik by putting up a legitimate question to him during the parliamentary sitting?
It is an affront to logic to say that whenever a member of Parliament from GPS puts a question to the minister or deputy minister is tantamount to an attempt to trap the minister concerned.
Maszlee said in a written reply in parliament to Nancy’s query, “This is because it violates Article 152(1) of the Federal Constitution and the National Language Act 1963/67, the ministry said, and contravenes the letter and spirit of the Education Act 1996. Therefore, to preserve and honour the supremacy of the constitution and the law, the ministry does not suggest that English be used as the medium of instruction in schools, including schools in Sarawak.”
Such remarks have caused massive uproar and disapproval from various sections.
Before Dr. Mazlee makes any or further clarification or explanation on his written reply, it is surprising that Chong from Sarawak jumped out to defend him and justify what he said. Awkwardly, he even doubted that Mazlee was caught in a trap as “set up” by Nancy Shukri.
Milton concluded Chong’s quick reaction in defending Dr. Mazlee simply shows that he has now become a “manager” in Sarawak for his Malaya counterparts, as opposed to his famous aggressive role in defending Sarawak without fear or favour when he was an opposition MP. Or could that be a mere acting all this while? Or the veil is now lifted uncovering his true colours.
