Milton: YB Chong has done nothing for Sarawak
Chairman of Sarawak Pakatan Harapan YB Chong Chieng Jen has described the announcement of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari Haji Openg on the success of Sarawak Government’s effort in securing the rights to explore oil in the territory of Sarawak as a mere political show or hot air stunt and befooling people. In response to this, SUPP Youth Central Secretary-General Milton Foo issued the following statement:
1. Being a MP for Bandar Kuching for 3 consecutive terms totalling 15 years more or less, has Chong ever tabled a motion to amend any provisions in the Petroleum Development Act 1974? Over the years, all what he did was to cry heroically outside the Parliament House but has never raised the issue or move any motion in the Parliament to amend or repeal any part in the said Act which has extended its legal effect to Sarawak.
2. Chong keeps saying that the Territorial Sea Act 2012 has greatly impaired the power of Sarawak Government over oil exploration. Why didn’t he as a law maker duly elected by the people for 3 consecutive terms, table a motion in Parliament to amend or repeal any part in the 2012 Act which is oppressive to the interest of Sarawak? Noticeably, Chong has not only failed to live up to the trust vested to him by the voters of Bandar Kuching & blatantly betrays the support from the people of Sarawak but also untiring in playing political trick by saying things on the one hand but doing things on the other hand.
3. One possible & sensible reason that could explain why Chong did not touch on the Petroleum Development Act 1974 and the Territorial Sea Act 2012 in the Parliament is that he dares not offend or act against the wishes of his Malaya counterpart masters including Tun Dr. Mahathir who is the President of Pakatan Harapan Malaysia. Moreover, if he did that he would have spoilt PH’s opportunity to substantial revenue on oil and gas generated from Sarawak if they win in the upcoming GE14 & become the federal government.
4. This explains why Chong has all along been so loyal & diligent in shielding the so-called “New Deal” of Pakatan Harapan, because he is the one who befools the people and it’s never in his wish list to see Sarawak gets better and get stronger under the good governance & administration of CM Abang Jo. That also explains why Chong keeps denying and attacking the Sarawak Government’s effort in regaining our autonomous rights to oil exploration within Sarawak territory through the set up of our oil company called PETROS.
5. Hence, Sarawakians are called upon to give full support to our CM Abang Jo and also to the Sarawak Government for its determination to get back our autonomous right to oil mining and exploration through the fruitful discussion on devolution of power between the State & Federal Government. In future, any oil company including PETRONAS who wants to carry out oil mining in Sarawak must obtain the requisite licence or permit issued by the Sarawak Government as provided under Item 2(c) of the State List in the Ninth Schedule of the Federal Constitution.
