Anthony Nogeh Gumbek to remain in SPDP
It’s out at long last. After weeks of keeping quiet, Mas Gading MP, Anthony Nogeh Gumbek, with over 200 of his supporters from Tasik Biru and Opar, came out to declare that he is staying put with the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP). He made the announcement in a press conference today at the party headquarters in Kuching.
Nogeh, who is said to be close to former SPDP President, Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, said despite Mawan being a friend and a mentor to him, he has decided to stay put as he wanted to remain with Barisan Nasional (BN) and continue his struggle with SPDP.
He said he decided not to join Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) despite Mawan being a good boss but wished him the best of luck. “We just don’t share the same ideology,” he added.
Also with Nogeh were party leaders of Tasik Biru, Michael Siten and Opar Chairman, Ryan Narong who said they are still with the SPDP. Michael said three of his exco members left while in Opar two exco members left. The rest, they pointed to those in the room, were solidly standing with them.
Asked if he thinks Teras should join the BN, Nogeh said according to the BN principle, if any component objected to Teras joining the party, then the party should not be accepted into BN.
