Case of Sarawakian victim fatally shot in Entikong

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau issued the update on the case of the Sarawakian victim who was fatally shot in Entikong, Indonesia and whose family members have requested the assistance of SUPP.

Pursuant to the request for assistance by family members of the victim, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap under the directive of SUPP Party President Datuk Prof Sim Kui Hian, have contacted and written to the Sarawak Police Commissioner and the Director of the Sarawak Health Department requesting for a post-mortem to be conducted.

The Hospital authorities have informed SUPP Public Complaints Bureau that they could only conduct a post-mortem upon request from the Police or by way of Court Order. The official reply from the Police was that they had no jurisdiction to investigate the case as the death occurred on foreign soil and under such circumstances, they cannot request the hospital to conduct the postmortem on the victim.

The Police further advised the family members to engage a counsel to file an application at the High Court seeking an Order for a post-mortem be conducted on the victim.

On the advice of the Police, the wife of the victim, through the assistance of SUPP Public Complaints Bureau, have now made the application to the High Court for an order that a post-mortem examination be conducted on the body of the victim to ascertain the cause of death and the conclusions that can be drawn from the post-mortem.   The High Court have fixed the case for hearing on 8th January 2018 @ 9.00 a.m.
