World Mental Health Day 2017
The World Mental Health Day 2017 celebration on Oct 28 will have the theme ‘Mental Health in the Workplace’.
Organised by the Mental Health Association of Sarawak, Sarawak General Hospital, Sentosa Hospital, and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, it will be held at the theatre hall of the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak at Jalan Stampin Timur.
Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kian Hui said the celebration would focus on the importance of mental health care and literacy among workers and employers.
Dr Sim said the celebration will address the value of promoting well-being in work settings of all kinds, adding that the mental health of employees seems to be neglected even though the World Health Organisation has found that depression is a major cause of illness and disability.
He added that depression needs to be addressed in the workplace as it can reduce productivity and affect the wellbeing of employees.
Several topics related to mental health would be presented during the celebration.
There will also be mental health screening, mental health exhibition, and a quiz.
