SUPP women on hudud
Exactly one year ago, DAP gave assurance to the Chinese voters that as long as they did not break the laws, they would have nothing to fear with the implementation of Hudud laws. This has led to DAP’s one sided victory in almost all the constituencies their candidates contested.
Today, after one year has passed, Sarawak DAP’s Chairman YB Chong Chieng Jen shamelessly said, if PAS insists on the implementation of Hudud laws, then the party ‘should’ quit Pakatan Rakyat.
SUPP Central Women Section is questioning YB Chong, if none of the DAP leaders had any idea at all when they decided to align themselves with PAS under Pakatan Rakyat, that top priority on the party’s political agenda is to turn Malaysia into a theocratic country governed by Hudud law? Implementation of Hudud laws will undoubtedly bring negative impacts to our nation that is multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious and the peace and harmony we have enjoyed all these years will be lost. How likely is that DAP only realized the severe consequences after they have won the election? Or could it be DAP tried to cover up the bad news in order to gain voters’ trust?
There are 222 Members of Parliament in Dewan Rakyat where 135 of them are Muslims while the rest are non-Muslim MPs (87). This means that if the bill is tabled, it only needs 112 votes for the bill to be passed.
At this critical moment, how YB Chong could be so shameless and ignorant to blame the BN MPs for not helping? If the ball is at UMNO’s foot, let’s not forget the most important question: Who kicked the ball to UMNO in the first place? Which party rallied and campaigned for PAS and asked its supporters to vote for PAS candidates? SUPP Central Women Section is demanding YB Chong to make this clear to the Chinese voters.
