Funds from state government for the new St Ann’s Catholic Church
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas presented a mock cheque for RM2 million from the state government for the new St Ann’s Catholic Church at its project site in Kota Padawan .
Uggah said this followed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s earlier promise when the latter visited the site of the new church on Feb 9 that the government would help the church building committee in raising funds for the project.
Najib also gave the assurance to Archbishop Dato John Ha of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kuching that the church would be getting another RM2 million from the federal government.
The whole project costs RM19.2 million but the building fund was short of RM8.9 million.
The new church is necessary as the existing one (located nearby) is no longer able to accommodate the over 2,000 congregation.
