Remembering a great leader
Despite eight days after the passing of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Haji Adenan Satem, Sarawakians still have not got over their grief for him.
Sarawakians of all races or religion came together to share their grief of the passing of a great leader. Despite being three years in office, Adenan had captured the hearts of his people of what he has done.
One young woman stood out in her appreciation of a good leader. She quit her job just to bid a last farewell to the CM.
The 20-year-old girl who worked in KL had asked for leave from her boss to return to Kuching to pay her respect to the Chief Minister.
However, her leave was rejected and she decided to quit her job and flew back.
On arriving in Kuching on January 13th, she turned up at the White Cat and joined the huge crowd to pay her tribute. As one young man was talking of the loss he felt over the passing of the Chief Minister to a SUPP member from Kuching branch, the girl joined in the conversation to say how she argued with her boss who refused to let her return.
She said she could not miss the opportunity to pay her last respect to a great leader who she loves and appreciate. Her boss has not been happy as he said it was not her relative who passed on but the girl was adamant to return. The girl had bought a flower and candles. She then wrote on the papers provided, “You are the Best ever CM! We will never ever forget you until in Heaven we meet. Amen!!. She also wrote a Mandarin message.
When contacted, Datuk Lily Yong for the confirmation of the story, Lily said it is true and the girl had narrated the incident to one of her members.
She said Adenan has left a legacy and Sarawakians had wanted to thank him by paying such tributes. Lily said she had asked her members to place A4 papers and candles when Adenan pass on. Every night, they collected the papers written by people of all walks of life at midnight and had passed them to Datin Patinggi.
