Beautifying and Greening Bario programme

Local Government Minister, Senator Datuk Dr, Sim Kui Hian launched the Beautifying and Greening Bario programme at Lepo Rurum in the highland yesterday, Dr. Sim said this should improve the quality of life of the people and Bario as a whole.

The people in Bario he said is fortunate to have natural beauty filled with green and fresh environment and compared to the cities, it is a blessing for the people who breath in fresh and clean air daily.

Miri City Council is taking the green initiative to manage its waste by promoting organic composting for use as fertilizer but at the end of the day, he said it depends on the involvement of the people and their acceptance.

Various activities were planned for the three days which included. seminar on environment, exhibition, tree planting, 3R program me and cleaning campaign.

Dr Sim also handed over Bokashi composting bins to eight pilot project sites for the local people to practise composting. The participants are SMK Bario, SK Bario, Mustafa Homestay, Nyimat Homestay, Labang Homestay, Rumah Panjang Bario Asal, Bario Youth Association and Bario Conservation Park.

Also at the function were Piasau State Assemblyman and Miri Mayor, Adam Yii.
