Dr Sim: healthy lifestyle best way to prevent heart problems
Minister of Local Government, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian said Heart disease is the number one killer in Malaysia as 9 out of 100 heart patients will die despite the first class health care facilities and specialists Malaysia has.
Dr. sim cautioned the people that it is they themselves who can prevent a heart attack, a stroke or a by pass.
Speaking at the opening of Kuching Heart Week yesterday on behalf of Datin Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu, wife of the chief minister, Dr. Sim pointed out that today we have up to date knowledge and advanced technology to provide the best health care but again, these are no guarantee unless individual lead a healthy life style.
He advised the people not to take food that are too salty, oily or have high sugar content. In Malaysia, a number of peple or more than half the population are obese which not only cause heart issues but other health problems like hip or knee pain.
Such education, he added, should start from schools, particularly on how children should eat wisely and for parents who should monitor the type of food their children take.
