Dr Sim: Our stand has not changed on UPP and Teras
SUPP President Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian was smiling away when he was asked whether the Barisan Nasional (BN) Supreme council meeting discussed about the fate of United Peoples’ Party (UPP) or Teras.
Dr. Sim who was at the meeting with Secretary general, Dato’ Sebastian Ting said, “We did discuss about the issue and the answer is still the same despite me and the other BN component leaders saying it before. If one component party objected, then the new applicants cannot be accepted.”
UPP and Teras considered themselves to be BN friendly parties after the breakaway from SUPP and SPDP in May 2014. Dato’ Sri Wong Soon Koh was the President of UPP and Tan Sri William Mawan President of Teras.
Dr. Sim said the reporters should instead go and find out if any new party had applied to join the BN. “If there is no applicants, how can we object? I think there is no new applicant joining the BN,” he said to the laughter of the other SUPP leaders.
On a more serious note, Dr. Sim said as Prime Minister and Chief Minister, they will welcome anyone who is BN friendly. “If that day, the DAP were to turn up at the indoor stadium, the PM and BN will also be happy to welcome them,” he added.
On the potential candidates for the SUPP 19 constituency or more if the new constituencies were on time for the state election, Dr. Sim said some branches have already submitted names to him.
“I must say we are very focused now on the election and we will only field in candidates that come from the ground and have the support of the people, not who is friendly to me. Some branches had submitted more than one names and we will vet through to see how the people react to these potential candidates and how their track record is. Thus I have said, go to the ground, work and service the people,” he pointed out.
On the Special delegates conference, Dr. Sim said it was likely to be held in September as they need to go to the ground to meet up with the people for feedbacks on how to help them.
He added that with the collection of GST, the money must be flowed back to assist the people like Brim or maybe, even free transport services. Dr. Sim said all these ideas are to come from the people on how they want the government to assist them.
