Mile 10 street lights need to be repaired

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will conduct a thorough investigation into the failure of 13 decorative LED street lights, which have been out of service for about a month, following numerous complaints from residents.

Councillor Gerald Goh said he recently carried out a site inspection together with MPP’s Engineering Department and technical team after receiving complaints about the prolonged outage.

He said the unlit street has created safety concerns for motorists and other road users at night.

According to Goh, MPP technicians had previously carried out repair works, but the street lights only remained operational for a few days before failing again.
“During the inspection, the engineering team observed that the street lights appeared to stop functioning after rainfall, leading to the suspicion that the problem may be caused by a fault in the underground cable,” he said.

Goh added that he asked whether the street lights were connected in a parallel circuit, and the engineers confirmed that they were.

“Based on this, we concluded that the issue is unlikely to be with the individual light poles. If a fault in one pole was responsible, it would not affect the entire row of street lights connected in a parallel circuit. This strongly suggests that the underground cabling is the source of the problem,” he said.

He said MPP will appoint the appropriate technical team to carry out a comprehensive investigation and undertake the necessary repair works.
Goh assured residents that the council is committed to resolving the issue as quickly as possible to restore proper street lighting and ensure the safety and convenience of the public.
