SUPP Public Complaint Bureau Chief, Milton Foo helps scammed victims

Stern actions must be done by the authorities including MOF/ bank negara in respect of mule accounts and Ministry of Communication in respect of locally registered mobile phone no. to curb the rising cases of online scams/ tele-scams.

In a press conference on Wednesday, SUPP public complaint bureau chief, Milton Foo said a youth, Chin saw an easy loan on FB in May this year and clicked on it as he wanted to borrow RM 3,000.

From there, he was lured to pay up more money and borrowed more to sustain paying the scammers. From May to September, Chin had paid out more than RM 100,000 to the scammers and even borrowed RM 30,000 of personal loan from a bank to furnish his payment.

When he exhausted all avenue to pay more money, his elder brother and sister were targeted.

Chin photos with threatening words of wanting to splash paint or burned his sister house was pasted all over including the neighbours.

His older brother also received threatening messages from four different numbers while his sister received from more than 10 different numbers. The brother ignored the message and blocked them.

“I would like to suggest to Bank Negara to impose hefty penalties on banks where mull accounts are found. I also urge BNM to disclose the statistics of mule accounts in our country for year 2023 & 2024 which were reported or found. Law & order must be in place to fight against scammers which have already posted a serious threat to our Malaysian citizen and national security as personal information such as contact no. and residential address can be easily obtained by the scammers.

He urged Parliamentarian to bring up such issue of pertinent and find a solution by making necessary law in order to protect the interests of the public.
