Deputy Premier, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hiangiving grant for Sacred Hope Dialysis centre, Batu Kawah

An estimated of 700 new dialysis patients was diagnosed annually while 350 Sarawakians died annually after undergoing dialysis for 15 to 20 years, said Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Despite that, he said, they still need to find new dialysis machines for 350 fellow Sarawakians as each dialysis can only be use by six patients (three patients per day for three times per week).

Dr Sim said they need another 59 new machines every year in Sarawak as 700 new patients were diagnosed with kidney problems.

He added that with limited ADUN Kawasan N14 funding (RM2 million per year for MRP financial grants), he said he tried to pull the resources together, to raise enough money for three dialysis machines (RM50,000 each) from ADUN N14 Batu Kawah, SUPP Batu Kawa and assistance from Federation of Chinese Association to help 18 Sarawakian who need dialysis yesterday to continue for next 15-20 years at Sacred Hope Dialysis Centre, Batu Kawah.

Dr Sim hoped that he can raise more funds for dialysis machines together, helping poor Sarawakian as well as Ministry of Health Malaysia to provide a much needed critical but severely under funded service.
