Lo Khere Chiang works hard and always delivers
MPP Chairman, Lo Khere Chiang is a hands-on person. He preferred to be on the ground to listen to his constituency problems, to attend weddings, funerals, birthdays: at any festive, joy or sadness, Lo is there.
His logic for all this is simple, his people vote him in and he wants to be with them in time to share their happiness or sadness.
Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Chairman, has implemented a great number of plans he wished to put forward for Padawan to grow and progress before the last State election. He assured the people in Batu Kitang that if he was voted in, he would improve their quality of life and develop their area which he has done.
Having spent most of his life in Padawan Municipal council starting as a councillor 30 years ago and later as an engineer and now the Chairman for the past 10 years, Lo knows his constituency in and out.
With 20,000 voters, the majority of 70 percent are Chinese and 30 percent Bumiputeras, Lo said he never differentiate them as such but treat all of them as fellow Sarawakians.
While SUPP main rival is DAP, Lo said he is not concerned in engaging in political quarrels with them as his voters are intelligent enough to realise PH/DAP in power for 22 months with not much benefit given to Sarawak. “While Sarawak moves from strength to strength, who wants to support and elect a Semenanjung party?’
In Batu Kitang, Lo pointed out that it is natural that residents there want better infrastructure, roads, drains and a better standard of living. The important thing is that we get back our rights and autonomy to be able to further improve Sarawakians lives. GPS is fighting on for this and we must hang in together as a big family to be successful in attaining our autonomy and with it will come along big time investors,” he added.
As an elected Sarawakian, as a citizen of this country as an assemblyman, I want to see the distribution of wealth and therefore creation of jobs for the younger generation. That is how the standard of lifestyle of the people can be improved.
In order to do that , he reckoned that there should be a stable political climate in the country which will naturally bring in investment. I wont say there are few investors in Sarawak, but I do want more investment for my constituency. I am more interested in my constituency and keep my promises I have made to them. Although, not all can be done in a year, so I plan out what I have promised in stages,” he said.
On Education and Health, Lo hoped to see that these two are given back to Sarawak. Sarawak should have the best schools equipped with the latest technology and teaching staff, hospitals should be made available in rural areas with good facilities and well trained doctors. Why should Sarawak be left out from such development while West Malaysia enjoys all these. Likewise, Petroleum Sales tax should be increased from 5 to 10 percent as oil and gas resources belong to Sarawak. So should housing be affordable to the people, especially the young who just started out with life. It is extremely difficult for youngsters to get their own houses these days without the assistance from parents.
Lo said that is why the people must rally behind GPS and with a united front, we can get what we demand instead of having to rely too much on Malaya.
Batu Kitang has improved vastly in terms of infrastructure and standard of living. Lo said a sum of RM15,000 allocation was given to each household to repair their dilapidated houses. The repairs included constructing new toilets, repairing kitchens, leaking roofs, broken windows, laying of proper floorings, walls etc… So far, a total of 80 households have benefited from these grants. Helping them . toilets, kitchens, leaking roofs, broken windows doors. The projects, he said, will continue until all residents in Batu Kitang have decent houses which can be achieved in another five years.
One of the government’s agenda is the RM5 million per year of Rural Transformation Program (RTP). “I have taken the community of my constituency into consideration to uplift their living standard. From futsal courts, football fields, Dewans, community halls, roads and drains, these infrastructure were constructed for the benefits of the people to give them a more conducive living environment.
Lo also praised the Chief Minister for his fairness for all religions. With the formation of UNIFOR, Chinese temples, churches were rebuilt and repaired. He said in the past, many of these houses of worship were in dire need of repairs and some of them in the rural area were in bad shape but with the grant given, they were able to do repairs and maintenance.
Batu Kitang has been brighter since Lo was elected in. A total of RM2.5 millions street lighting in Batu Kitang and Landeh were put out. There was a widening of Batu Kitang roads from two lanes to four lanes from Mile 7 to Bau. Drainages were constructed to address the flash floods in Capital Garden, Arang Road and Burung Lilin with about RM4 millions spent. There will be a 10 million project which is in the pipeline for flood mitigation under the State government in the next couple of years.
Due to expensive housing from private sectors, Lo said the State government through Housing has constructed affordable housing that can cater over 200 families costing RM40 million. Another is Jalan Landeh and Batu Kitang flats.
Lo said thanks to a politically stable government under GPS, life for the people in Batu Kitang has greatly improved and many youngsters were able to get jobs in the city as the area is relatively near the capital city. In the next five years, the State government will naturally plan more benefits for the people if GPS candidates are voted in.
In Batu Kitang, there are about 22,000 voters, 13,200 are Chinese (60℅), 4,400 are Dayaks (20℅), 3,960 are Malays (18℅) and 440 are others (2℅)
