Sebastian Ting Says Heart disease is the world’s number one killer
Awareness of heart health should be a shared responsibility of the community, not something that relies solely on hospitals or healthcare professionals, said Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting.
“Heart disease is the number one killer worldwide, and Malaysia is no exception,” he stressed.
He said everyone should take small but meaningful steps to protect this vital organ, such as maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, managing stress, and going for timely health check-ups.
“The 2025 World Heart Day, themed ‘Feel Your Rhythm, Live Your Health’, reminds us to re-examine our lifestyle, habits, and overall well-being, and to make heart protection a culture in daily life,” Ting said when officiating the World Heart Day 2025 celebration at Miri Bintang Megamall on Sunday.
Ting thanked Miri Borneo Medical Centre for hosting the event, which offered free health checks, medical consultations, and health education to the public.
“Heart health is our shared responsibility. By paying attention to our own health today, we can share this knowledge with our families and neighbours tomorrow, and together build a healthier community,” he added.
Ting also expressed his gratitude to all healthcare workers and volunteers for their contributions, and hoped more community-based activities like this could be organised in the future.
