Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian Presents RM150,000 Grant to Support Relocation of SJKC Kai Ming
Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, officially presented a RM150,000 financial grant from the Sarawak Government to SJKC Kai Ming, Bintulu, in support of its ongoing construction efforts at its relocated site.
Originally based in Bintangor with only six students a decade ago, the Chinese primary school has seen significant growth since its relocation to Bintulu, now serving nearly 400 students.
Dr Sim praised the efforts of the School Board, led by Chairman Datuk Pau Chiong Ung, and acknowledged the overwhelming support from the public who collectively contributed RM5.3 million towards the project. He also noted that the Sarawak Government has allocated a total of RM1.7 million for the school’s relocation and provided state land for the new site.
He further said, “Premier Abang Johari continues the strong legacy of supporting Chinese education. Since introducing the annual allocation for Chinese primary schools in 2020, a total of RM70 million has been distributed including RM12 million this year benefiting 27 SJKCs across Sarawak, either through new classrooms or relocation from rural to urban areas.”
Dr Sim also recalled that the Sarawak Government’s financial support for Chinese secondary schools began in 2013 under the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, and was continued by Premier Abang Johari in 2016.
He added, “Premier Abang Jo always reminds us that Chinese schools in Sarawak are schools for all races. Today, there are 222 Chinese primary schools, of which 186 are SJKCs, catering to approximately 60,000 students, about 25,000 of whom are non-Chinese.”
