Kho Teck Wan said queue jumping for vaccine a selfish act
It is a good idea of Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology (Mosti) Khairy Jamaluddin who had instructed the COVID vaccination program task force to provide the name of front liners and establish definitive guideline following the reports that some politicians, family members and their aides attempted to cut the queue to get access to the COVID19 vaccine, said SUPP Central Woman Chief, Kho Teck Wan.
“The action to jump queue is selfish and unethical as the first phase of vaccination is prioritised for front liners and elected representatives who are directly involved in the fight against COVID19 pandemic. Let’s be a good citizen and ensure all our front liners are protected, ” she said.
COVID19 vaccination program is rolled out in 3 phases. The first phase which is on going is targeted to front liners in medical, essential services and defence fields. The first phase is targeted to complete by April 2021.
The second phase is target to those who has chronic diseases and senior citizen above the age of 60, and handicaps. The second phase is scheduled to start in April and completed by August 2021.
The third phase will start in May and completed in august 2021. It is for the remaining of the population above the age of 18.
Priority will be given to people who stays in the red zones, followed by orange, then yellow and finally green zones.
Sarawak, said Kho would need almost everyone above the age of 18 to be vaccinated in order to achieve herd immunity (70 % of the population).
“Our challenge in sarawak is that 28.8% of our population are under the age of 18, who are currently not eligible for vaccine. I would like to urge the public to register for the vaccine via MySejahtera. The feature to register for elderly dependents and those who don’t have MySejahtera mobile application will be available soon. And for those who doesn’t have smartphone, they can register at the residence office near by.
While waiting for our turn to get vaccinated, let us continue to stay vigilant, stay healthy and follow the SOPs. It has been one year since we started our fight against the COVID19 pandemic, although the vaccine has arrived, we shall not become complacent now, ” she stated.
