Seizure of Bibles

SUPP publicity chief, Dato Sebastian Ting condemn the seizure of more than300 Bibles or Al-Kitab from the premises of the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) in Damansara, Petra Jaya by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) at the start of the new year.
Ting who is also the SUPP Piasau Chairman said he was sadden that the start of a new year would bring on such a negative move from Jais and the action taken will raise fears and discomfort among Christians in Malaysia.
This sort of raids would never happen in moderate Sarawak as Sarawakians are known to live in harmony with each other regardless of race or religion. “I am happy that even our own Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office in charge of Islamic Affairs, Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman has assured that such thing will not happen in Sarawak. In fact, it should not have happen at all,” he said.
Ting pointed out that Sarawakians are fortunate in the sense that our Government practise moderation and the Bibles in Bahasa Malaysia has been used for over a century with no controversy. In Sarawak, we respect each other for the religion individuals practise.
Puzzled that the raid itself was carried out in a Pakatan Rakyat run state, Ting said the PR government claimed not to have any knowledge of the raid. “I find this a lame excuse. How come the raid is right at their doorstep and they feign ignorance over it. What are the thing that is going to happen next in their state which they would not know. It is time PR state should learn about moderation from us,” he added.
He also questioned the action of DAP leaders in Selangor on their failure to stop such blatant act within their government and what excuse would they be coming up next.
