SUPP Youth Wing soldiers on

SUPP Youth Wing, Tan Kai is not a contented person where politics is concerned for this year. Affected by the internal conflicts, Tan Kai hoped to see a closure soon and a solution so that the party could move on to see better days next year.

Not wanting to take sides, Tan Kai said since 2011 after he was elected Youth Central Chief, he said in his maiden speech that the Youth Wing would stay away from the internal controversial issues and he had to keep his word on that.

However, he lauded present President, Tan Sri Peter Chin for being a gentleman who most of the time refuses to be drawn into making unnecessary statement that would hurt the party more.

Tan Kai said from what he read in the papers, the other camp leader, Dato’ Sri Wong Soon Koh said controversial figure should go including those who are senior leaders and had lost in elections. “Our president made that statement very frequently in our Central Working Committee and I believe that if it happens, things would be looking good for us,” he said.

He admits there is still a long way for the party to win back the people’s support but believes that if they put their hearts and mind to it, they will succeed.

At the moment, he said the Youth would still continue to work and to stay relevant. So far, this year, the Youth Wing had helped students to appeal for placement in universities, setting up a Crime Prevention committee to address the increase in crime, set up a Welfare Aid to assist the less fortunate with joint help from the Woman’s Wing and went to a fruitful study tour in Putra Jaya.

He said the study tour is an eye opener for his Youth Wing. The group of 15 went to four Ministries and met personally with the Ministers there. The Ministries visited were Youth and Sports, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Human Resources and Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The youths, he said, appreciated the government more after the visit and understand the work of each Ministry. He hoped that a similar trips would be organised next year which is not only an eye opener for the youth but a good way to interact between East and West Malaysia component parties of the Barisan Nasional.

On the crime prevention committee that was set up, Tan Kai pointed out that it was necessary. With the police’s assistance, he said they organised talks in the high crime areas to educate the people on awareness and how to help themselves not to be a victim of crime. Several housing areas had benefited from such educational talk.

Tan Kai said for next year, the Youth would continue with similar program and besides all these, they also helped with the public’s complaints on infrastructure, utilities problems, drainage problems among others. He said whatever it would be, SUPP Youth will be here to stay and they would stay relevant for the people. “After all, the youth are the leaders of tomorrow,” he added.
