Tan Sri Peter – the party will grow stronger – speech during 55th Anniversary dinner

It is indeed my great pleasure on behalf of the SUPP party Central warmly welcome YAB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hj Adenan Satem and YA Bahagia Puan Sri Datu Hajah Jamilah Anu to this grand dinner to celebrate SUPP 55th Anniversary since its formation on 4th June, 1959. Tonight’s Anniversary Dinner also marks YAB Chief Minister’s very first official function with SUPP since his alleviation to the post of Chief Minister of Sarawak and Chairman of Sarawak Barisan Nasional. Yang Amat Berhormat, SUPP is proud to play host to you and your charming First Lady as our Guests of Honour and we do hope tonight’s programs will meet with your expectations.

At the same time, I take this opportunity to officially welcome as well as heartily thank each and everyone of the following Honoured Guests, namely: Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai, President of MCA, Tan Sri James Jemut Masing, President of PRS, Dato Sri Ma Siew Khiong, President of GERAKAN, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, President of LDP, Datuk Madius Tanggau, President of UPKO, Datuk Seri Tiong Khing Sing, Acting President of SPDP, Dr Yee Moh Chai, Deputy President of PBS and Datuk Amar Abang Johari Bin Tun Hj Openg, Deputy President of PBB. I wish also to thank the kind presence of the Honorable Federal Ministers, State Ministers, Federal Deputy Ministers, State Assistant Ministers, Senators, Members of Parliament and Members of the Council Negeri for agreeing to grace tonight’s Anniversary Dinner. Your presence at tonight’s Anniversary Dinner has given us immense encouragement and moral support.

YAB Chief Minister, the whole Party had just finished the process of elections of Sub-Branch and Branch leaders for 2015 to 2017. I am most happy to report that barring very minor hitches, the elections for Branch, Youth and Women Committees went on smoothly augering well for the Triennial Delegates’ Conference later this month. I am confident that a younger and more dynamic Central leadership will emerge at the conclusion of the Triennial Delegates’ Conference.

This year’s Anniversary Dinner has brought back so many memories pertaining to the early days of SUPP when our former leaders have to make hard decisions, some of which were glorious while others were difficult ones, all in the interests of the long term survival of the Party. I am most happy to note that the BN leadership, both Federal and State levels, had understood the rationale and motives for such decisions. I wish to assure YAB Chief Minister that there was no element of personal interest involved nor was any decision undertaken based on personal considerations or motivation. Thus, the Organisers of tonight’s Anniversary Dinner, who hails from the ranks of the Youth and Women Wings, are hoping to cultivate better unity and adhesion within the Party’s leadership at all levels, Youth and Women included. The Organisers are aware that in order to perform credibly during the next State General Elections, the Party must be united and strong.

Finally, the leadership of SUPP would like to thank and to congratulate YAB Chief Minister for the enlightened leadership shown in your few months since becoming Chief Minister of the State. We are confident you will do much more to develop the State. SUPP supports and wants to play a major role in your plans and efforts to bring about a more united and progressive Sarawak, irrespective of race, religion or locality.
