Crocodile sightings prompt safety warning at Stampin resettlement scheme

Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin visited Lorong 1 at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme following reports from residents of crocodile sightings in a nearby river.

The visit coincided with the installation of official warning signage by Sarawak Forestry Corporation to alert the public to potential danger in the area. The signs advise residents and visitors to avoid fishing and catching prawns or crabs due to safety risks.

Yap said his service centre acted swiftly after receiving concerns from residents, particularly over children who continue to frequent the river despite the reported sightings.

“Public safety must always come first. I strongly urge all residents, especially parents, to advise their children to stay away from the river. While some may still wish to carry out fishing activities, they must exercise extreme caution at all times,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation for its prompt action in putting up the warning signage and addressing community concerns.
