SUPP Central Women chief defends Dr Sim, criticises DAP over “double standards”
SUPP Central Women Section Chairman Kho Teck Wan has defended the recent “Kasi DAP Telor” remark by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, while accusing DAP of practising double standards in its response.
Kho said DAP leaders, including elected representatives and DAPSY members, were quick to label the remark as arrogant, describing such reactions as exaggerated and hypocritical.
She pointed out that the remark was made during a GPS convention before party members, with the aim of energising and motivating them ahead of the upcoming election.
“Such rhetoric is standard political practice. Parties across the spectrum routinely use slogans to mobilise their base,” she said.
Kho added that DAP itself had, over the years, used stronger and more provocative language against political opponents, and questioned why similar remarks were now being condemned.
“To criticise such statements now is inconsistent and dismissive of the principle of freedom of speech. The right to motivate one’s members does not belong exclusively to DAP,” she said.
She also took issue with claims by DAP leaders that the phrase “Bagi DAP Telur” could “destroy democracy in Sarawak,” describing the argument as misleading and self-serving.
Kho said such claims underestimated the political maturity of Sarawakians and reflected an inflated sense of self-importance.
“Are we to believe that only DAP is capable of holding the government accountable? Are Sarawak-based parties any less capable of serving as a credible opposition?” she asked.
She further criticised DAP’s track record, claiming the party had focused heavily on criticising government initiatives while contributing little to Sarawak’s development, unity and social harmony.
As an example, Kho cited DAP’s opposition to the five per cent State Sales Tax on exported petroleum products introduced in 2018.
She said the policy had significantly strengthened Sarawak’s financial position since January 2019, generating about RM28.5 billion in revenue as of October 2025.
“Had the Sarawak government followed DAP’s position, the state might have missed a critical opportunity to strengthen its revenue base,” she said, adding that the funds now support initiatives such as Senior Citizen Health Benefits, SKAS and free tertiary education.
Kho said it is timely for Sarawakians to reflect on the relevance and effectiveness of DAP as an opposition party in the State Assembly.
“Democracy is not defined by the presence of a single party, but by the strength, responsibility and maturity of all who participate in it,” she added.
