RTP Helps Uplift Miri Folks Living Standard

Efforts to enhance sports facilities and community infrastructure in Miri have been further strengthened through the 2024 Rural Transformation Project (RTP) upgrade of the Jalan Aru Basketball Court.

The project handover under the supervision of the Village Welfare and Security Committee (JKKK) for the Central Miri area to the contractor was officiated by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) and Piasau State Assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, on Thursday.

Valued at RM150,000, the project is scheduled for completion within three months, from September 30 to December 31, 2025. It aims to ensure that local community sports facilities are safer and more comfortable to use.

Key works include site clearing, installation of project signboards, construction of a Grade 25 concrete court, installation of new green-coated fencing, and high-quality tempered glass backboards to replace the old structures. The project also involves painting the court with multi-purpose Jotun paint, building new concrete benches, preparing test cubes, and installing 200W solar-powered lights to improve safety and lighting in the area.

During the same working visit, Datuk Sebastian also inspected a 288-meter road construction project in Kampung Sealine Atas, funded under the 2024 RTP allocation of RM200,000. Construction began on June 9, 2025, and was fully completed on August 30, 2025, despite a 22-day delay from the original schedule.

“I am very pleased to see this project completed despite the slight delay. Developments like this are crucial to ensure that residents can enjoy better and safer facilities,” Datuk Sebastian said after the visit, expressing his appreciation to the contractor and implementing agencies for delivering the project efficiently and benefiting the villagers immediately.

He emphasized that RTP implementation reflects the state government’s commitment to improving the living standards of the people, particularly in urban and suburban areas, through enhancements to basic infrastructure and public amenities.

“RTP is proof that the state government listens to the needs of the people. Every project, whether small or large, directly impacts the well-being of the community,” he added.

Also present during the visit were Pemanca Leonard Fong, Councillors Leslie Lau, Tan Lek Jin, and Kelvin Chia Kah Leong, officers from the Miri City Council, and representatives from the implementing contractor.
