Miri City Council Launches 2025 Mayor’s Award to Honour Community Heroes
Miri Mayor and Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii has announced the launch of the Miri City Mayor’s Award 2025, an annual initiative by the Miri City Council (MCC) to recognise individuals, organisations, and communities that have made meaningful contributions to the city’s growth and wellbeing.
Speaking at a press conference, Yii said the award celebrates passion, dedication, and selfless service by those who have worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes in order to make Miri a better, safer, cleaner, and more vibrant city.
“The Mayor’s Award is a celebration of those who help make Miri thrive,” he said.
The award is open to individuals, organisations, NGOs, companies, and private sector entities that have contributed to Miri’s progress. It welcomes Sarawakians, Malaysians, and expatriates, while international nominees may also be considered through invitation or recommendation by MCC or relevant stakeholders.
Yii said all nominations must demonstrate measurable impact and align with MCC’s vision of “Miri: Green, Smart, Most Liveable International Resort City”, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Nominees will be evaluated based on their impact on the community, innovation, leadership, voluntary service, sustainability, inclusiveness, cultural and educational contribution, and role in enhancing Miri’s image.
For 2025, the award categories are:
- Environment
- Tourism
- Safety and Security
- Education
- Youth, Culture, Arts, Sports and Talent
- Public Health
- Community Works
- Media and Press, Social Media Influencer
- Open Category
- Special Awards
Yii added that the categories reflect Miri’s multidimensional growth, covering areas from environmental sustainability and education to innovation and community service.
The nomination period opens on October 7, 2025, and closes at 5 p.m. on November 7, 2025. Nominations can be submitted online via Google Form on MCC’s official website, or by downloading the PDF form from miricouncil.gov.my and submitting it through email or directly to the Miri City Hall Public Relations Section.
“As we approach the 20th anniversary of Miri City, let us honour those who inspire others, strengthen civic pride, and bring glory to our beloved Miri,” Yii said. “Every nomination counts, and every story deserves to be heard.”
