Hungry Ghost celebration on August 18
Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian joined in the celebration of the Hungry Ghost Festival at Lo San Miaw Temple, Kuching.
Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as the Zhongyuan Festival in Taoism and the Yulanpen Festival in Buddhism is celebrated in Chinese culture, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar every year.
In Sarawak, Dr Sim said this is a popular celebration as there are celebrations in many temple, streets, factories, construction sites, houses.
During the festival, worshippers will pay respect to all deceased by burning hell notes, joss sticks, laying out food and chanting scriptures.
