Busking Festival to be an annual event

Busking Festival will be made into an annual event considering the success of the first Kuching festival last month, said Gerald Goh, the organiser Chairman.

The inaugural festival was held in mid last month for three days where over 150 buskers showcase their talents at Kuching Busking Festival along Carpenter Street.

Among the merry-making performers which included the Mine Dance Group, made up of over 50 children and adults ranging from the age of three to fifty, they put on an almost flash-mob-like sequence of presentations such as traditional and Indian dances, hip hop and Kpop.

The Festival also feature other buskers showcasing performing arts forms such as the Malay Gendang, Chinese Opera and Sape music. Other genres include country and western music, folks and contemporaries, dances and an Artists’ Corner.

Goh who is SUPP Batu Kitang Organising Secretary said this festive allows talented people regardless of age or race to showcase their performance.

The Festival, organised by the Sarawak Handicrafts and Souvenirs Association, is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts with the Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City as the other major sponsor.
