Covid 19 pfizer vaccine arrives in Kuching
Local government and Housing Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian advised the people not to fall prey to fake news or rumors on the danger of getting a booster shot, be it homologous or heterologous.
He said from November 4, a total of 162,826 eligible had received their booster dose, 115,532 (2 doses Sinovac previously) and 50,901 (2 doses Pfizer previously).
“Despite hundreds of thousands have received their booster dose in Sarawak, there are no booster serious reactions – be it same vaccine or mix and match vaccine. Yet, there are widespread fake news to create fear (especially about mix & match booster) by many irresponsible people with evil intentions thus putting the lives of our fellow Sarawakian at risk of severe COVID19 and deaths!” he said.
On Sunday night, COVID19 Pfizer vaccines numbering 132,000 doses arrived at Kuching International Airport which was part of Program Immunisasi COVID19 Kebangsaan (PICK) booster dose.
Dr. Sim added that between October to November 2021, a total of 597,097 Sarawakians are eligible for booster dose (2 doses Sinovac after 3 months/ 2 doses Pfizer after 6 months to eb administered for over 60 years old, or less than 60 with co-morbid, or medical/non medical frontliners).
Sarawak, he said is one of the earliest in whole of Malaysia to complete 2 doses.
A booster jab is needed, Dr. Sim stated, as WHO and medical experts worldwide had noticed the waning of our immunity after vaccination (in Malaysia, Pfizer after 6 months, Sinovac after 3 months. The third dose for AstraZeneca is still unknown.
Dr Sim strongly recommended that everyone eligible should get their booster dose as per MySejahtera appointment. He hoped SDMC will allow walk in soon since GPS Sarawak Government had already restarted 50 PPV before DUN Sarawak dissolution.
