Stand united to fight covid 19, not the time for declaration of Emergency, says Datuk Sebastian

Like most Malaysians, SUPP is happy and relieved that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has asserted that there is no need to declare a state of emergency for our country after our Agong met and had discussions with other Malay Rulers at Istana Negara on the 15th October 2020, said Piasau State Assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting.

Ting who is also the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture said this is primarily because the current outbreak of COVID-19 in the country has not reached the stage of grave emergency whereby the security, the economic life or public order in the country is seriously threatened.

“In Sarawak, Our State Disaster Management Committee, (SDMC) since March 18 2020, has done a superb job in handling the Covid 19 pandemic and indeed Sarawakians feel comfortable with the measures taken by SDMC Most importantly SDMC has been keeping the people of Sarawak well informed of the COVID-19 situation in Sarawak on a daily basis,” he added.

Ting acknowledged that there are concerned that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has risen dramatically, especially after Sabah Election but he believed that the Ministry of Health will be able to handle these challenges, without the declaration of a State of Emergency.

“Declaring a state of emergency in our country must never be decided lightly because of its serious impact on the already bad economy of the country, which is already in a precarious situation and the risk of making it harder for our economy to bounce back later in the recovery stage. Businesses and people will suffer. They will certainly blame the Federal Government for this mess. What is important now is for all politicians to take heed of the message and advice from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who reminded all politicians to stop politicking which could cause another political crisis and thus instability in the country.Politicians from all the different parties should come together and discuss on how to help the people and how to fight this Covid 19 pandemic as a United Front,” he reckoned.

He added that foremost consideration will be to discuss and agreed on the proposed budget expected to be tabled in Parliament on 6th November 2020 and with participation of all political parties, it is hoped that the proposed agreed Budget will be approved and passed by Parliament when the Budget is eventually tabled for voting. This, he stated will probably be an excellent news to the people of Malaysia and a comfort to them that for once all Members of Parliament can come together, sink their differences and be United in the fight against Covid 19 pandemic.
