Justice for late Chung Soon Teck

Around  100 family members and friends of the late Chung Soon Teck gathered at the Sarawak United peoples’ Party (SUPP) headquarter, armed with banners protested against the shooting of Chung. His wife had earlier lodged a police report in Kuching.

The family members and friends held banners with wording in Mandarin calling the shooting as “cruel”, ‘seeking justice’, ‘pay back my life’ and ‘killing a scapegoat’ were held up by family members.

Chung was shot in Pontianak after Indonesian police claimed that he was a drug dealer who was trying to escape from their custody last Saturday night. Three other Indonesians were arrested a couple of days earlier in connection with the case.

The family members have sought the assistance of Sentosa Chairman, Wilfred Yap. Yap told reporters that he will write to the Sarawak Police Commissioner, the Interpol and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get to the bottom of the issue. He said he will also seek the President of SUPP, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian to ask the hospital to hasten the post mortem as the family wanted to bury Chung.

Chung’s remains were brought back on Tuesday night and after a report was lodged at Siburan, his remains were brought to the Sarawak general hospital morgue.

Three of Chung’s friends had gone to Pontianak last Saturday for holidays.

According to the friends, four of them arrived in Pontianak about 7 pm driven by Chung in a Toyota Hilux. After getting out of the Custom check at Indonesia, the four got out and were surrounded by about 10 men who took away their mobile phones. The 10 were armed with automatic rifles and pistols.

The friends said they were driven separately with Indonesian men and  were handcuffed when they got out of the car before they were handed to a group of people who claimed to be Indonesian Narcotic police.

Three were released that night and Chung was detained.

His wife and brothers went to Pontianak on Sunday after being told he was detained.

They arrived there to find he was killed. The family returned with Chung’s body and wanted answers to all the happenings.

Chung’s wife said from the news, it meant that Chung was shot dead after his three friends were brought back to the hotel.

Chung left behind his wife, two daughters aged 17 and 20.
