Demolishing government property

SUPP Kota Sentosa Branch Youth Chairman Wilfred Yap strongly condemns the savage action of those who participated in the demolishing of road divider in Kota Sentosa a couple of days ago, directly or indirectly, because this amounts to taking matters into their own hands without regards to the law.

At the same time, he pointed out that SUPP Kota Sentosa Branch Youth is also greatly disappointed when DAP’s YB Christina Chew, who had no business in Kota Sentosa, showed up while their State Assemblyman YB Chong Chieng Jen and Member of Parliament YB Julian Tan did not show up at all.

“Instead of asking the locals to stop demolishing the divider immediately, Christina Chew as an elected assemblywoman just stood there and watched as the lost control crowd tore the structure apart, disregarding the safety of other road users despite the presence of enforcement authorities”, added Yap.

Yap is troubled by what he saw in the newspapers and opined that what those who were involved had done was an act of destroying government properties and any vandalizing of government properties is a serious offence under the law.

“If the locals did not agree with the construction of that divider, they should go through proper and legal channels to have that structure dismantled, not to take matters into their own hands.”

Yap, who is also SUPP Central Youth Secretary General and an experienced lawyer said, that the relevant authorities should stand firm and take action against those who participated in vandalizing the divider.

Meanwhile, SUPP Central Youth Chairman Tan Kai also expresses his concerns, saying that in this current day and age, such savage and uncivilized action is completely uncalled for and unacceptable.

“If anyone could to take matters into their own hands whenever they were discontent or not happy with a policy, imagine what will happen in the future? This undoubtedly will disrupt the social order”, he pointed out.

“What amazes me is the banner they carried and displayed. It seemed as though everything was already planned ahead. But if the message was intended for our Chief Minister, why only printed in Chinese and not English or Bahasa”, questioned Tan Kai.

“Or, could it be that the message on the banner was never intended for our Chief Minister and merely a political gimmick, intended to fan up the local’s sentiments?”

Tan Kai said, that it was unfair to blame MPP councillor Fong Jiew Ted for not being there because the latter had to chair a very important meeting on that same morning. “Where were DAP’s Julian Tan and Chong Chieng Jen? Why no one put the blame on them, since they are the elected representatives of that particular area?”
