Dr Sim on religious unity
Speaking at a recent gathering of the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia Kuching, Dr Sim thanked the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia to include Sarawak for this nation-wide activity.
He also extended his Congratulations to the organisers from Kuching for bringing young members of 20 Buddhist Associations in Kuching coming together for this meaningful activities which is not only spiritual, mental as well as physical (10,000 steps per day).
Dr Sim explained that Young people in Malaysia nowadays tends to be in a pressure environment of “As” for academic results, getting to the best universities and getting a highly paid job, thus losing the “carefree” life of the youth of yesteryears. Hence the need for spiritual and mental wellness is all the more important than ever.
Religion is very personal matter. We should respect each others’ religions. Many of us are non christian yet we spend so many of our formative years in catholic schools (TYT Sarawak, CM Sarawak and many others).
For my case, being a great beneficiary of a Christian school does not make me less Buddhist and likewise dilute the Christian school value by having non Christians studying there.
I can’t agree more with the uncompromising stand of YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, Chief Minister of Sarawak on religious bigots.
All fellow Malaysians should speak up to defend the constitutional right of freedom of religion and should strongly condemn those who incite religious intolerance or disharmony.
History has taught us that religious wars ended up not just unnecessary lost of lives, destroying the very society which takes years to evolve into a peaceful and coexistence community without having it better than before the war!
