A total of 117 outstanding students from the Batu Kawa constituency, who excelled in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), were yesterday awarded certificates and incentives by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government and also N14 Batu Kawah Assemblyman, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian. The awards were presented in recognition of their excellent academic achievements.

The students who received the awards achieved a minimum of 5As in their respective examinations. They are mostly from SMK Batu Kawa, SM Min Lit Batu Kawa and SMK Jalan Arang. Some of the students are studying in other secondary schools but they are staying in the Batu Kawa area.

In his speech during the award ceremony, Dr Sim stated that the event aimed to acknowledge and encourage students for their excellent performance in both these examinations.

He said, “Every year, many students from the Batu Kawa constituency passed the public exams with flying colours, which reflects the high standard of our students. It is also a testament to the strong emphasis parents place on education and the dedication of our teachers.”

Dr Sim highlighted that Sarawak has produced many outstanding talents across various fields, citing the example of an internationally renown cancer researcher who is from Sarawak. He said, this demonstrates the exceptional potential of our Sarawakians.

“Our Sarawak Heart Centre, developed entirely by our own efforts, has now become a prominent specialist hospital in the region. Sarawak General Hospital has also gained international recognition in several specialties, proving the capabilities of Sarawakians,” he added.

Dr Sim further shared that the Sarawak Government is actively promoting educational development, not only by offering incentives and benefits but also by providing free tertiary education through its five state-owned universities, to nurture more talents .

He said that Sarawak is undergoing rapid development and requires more technical graduates to meet future human capital demands. Therefore, wherever they may be in the future, graduates should always remember that Sarawak is their home and should come home to give back to their community.
