Padawan Municipal Council Recognises As Partner of Shandong Friendly city
The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has been recognised as one of the “Outstanding Partners of Shandong Province Friendship Cities” by the Shandong Provincial Government, People’s Republic of China.
The award, presented during the 2025 Shandong International Friendship Cities Cooperation and Exchange Week, acknowledges MPP’s active and longstanding sister city collaboration with Yantai City. MPP is among 16 international cities to receive this inaugural honour, which aims to strengthen global cooperation and people-to-people ties with Shandong.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Council, MPP Chairman Cr. Tan Kai said, “This recognition reflects the consistent efforts and commitment by both Padawan and Yantai to foster meaningful exchanges and cooperation over the years. We are truly honoured.”
He noted that the relationship, established in 2017, has grown steadily through joint initiatives involving government, trade, youth, education, and cultural engagements. “Our collaboration with Yantai City has laid a strong foundation for mutual understanding and development. It has opened up many opportunities for Padawan, including exposure for Sarawak products and businesses,” he added.
Earlier, Cr. Tan Kai and the MPP delegation attended the International Investment Promotion Conference at the Yantai Market Trade Exhibition and Service Centre. The warm welcome extended by senior Yantai officials underscored the close ties between the two cities.
Cr. Tan Kai further expressed optimism for the future of the partnership. “We hope to deepen our cooperation with both Yantai and the Shandong Provincial Government in key areas such as culture, education, tourism, economy, and sustainable urban development. This partnership benefits not only our communities but also contributes to broader international friendship.”
Sarawak-made products were also showcased during the exhibition, offering a platform for local industries to reach international stakeholders and potential investors.
