Robert Lau on Engkilili State Assemblyman Janicol Rayong
Robert Lau Hui Yew statement
I take issue with Engkilili State Assemblyman, YB Janicol Rayong. He seemed to be speaking for UPP Sibu but in his capacity as UPP Youth Chief. How strange! The last I heard about him politically was after last year State election when he attempted to rejoin BN via PBB.
He had resigned from UPP in order to contest under the BN banner with the promise to the then Chief Minister, the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem, that he would join a BN component party. So far he has not honour his promise.
I am baffled by his remark about coming up with a 5-year plan for Sibu. Does he not realise that his party chief is the head of Sibu visionary team since 1999 as well as another UPP Adun is heading Sibu Municipal Council for more than a decade. Did he ever show concern for Sibu by asking his seniors what have they done for Sibu all these while?
YB Rayong should be asking his seniors why the young people are leaving the town. He is still the UPP youth head AND should be the leading voice of the youth even though he is well past 55. That speaks volume about the party that continues to pay lip services of giving opportunity to the younger generation.
The lack of opportunities for the young is even more acute in smaller towns and rural areas. Engkilili is no exception. YB Rayong is a 3-term YB for Engkilili. My question for him is what has he done after all these years for his anak biak? Has he ever come up with any 5 year plan for his constituency?
I had in 2009 wrote what needed to be done for Sibu in view of the decline of the main stay of Sibu economy, the timber industry. The view I stated then was revised in 2014 and they still stand except that I believe the sun has now set for the timber industry in Sibu. My writings are still available on my Facebook post.
We need to go back to basics and work on our advantages which consist of our plenty of uncultivated land, educated population and stable government. Another advantage that has been added is affordable electricity.
