CM on unity among Sarawakian
Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who has taken over as Chief Minister since March this year, continued with the most important task of uniting Sarawakian more.
In Sri Aman yesterday during the meet-the-people session, Adenan advised Sarawakian not to utter hurtful words against each other.
He said no one should tell the Chinese to go back to China, or the Indians to go back to India. Sarawak, he added, is big enough to accommodate everyone and it is the duty of all to preserve the racial unity that already exist in Sarawak among all races of different religions and cultures.
Adenan has made a number of positive statements for the people of Sarawak. He has warned that outsiders who are religious bigots would be kicked out if they disrupt the harmony and peace in Sarawak.
Sarawak is the best in the country in term of racial harmony and respect for each other. Adenan, who values such unity, constantly reminded the people to appreciate what we have. He was the first leader who said he has no qualms about Sarawak Christians using the word “Allah”.
Adenan pointed out that with the current racial, religious and cultural harmony in Sarawak, the economy will continue to grow, thus reducing the gap between the rich and the poor. He believed that development efforts should be emphasized in the rural areas to allow the rural folks to enjoy basic infrastructure. “With roads, electricity and water supply for the rural people, the gap between rural and urban could be bridged with the use of technology, skilled work force and industrial development,” he added.
He also gives the assurance he will request the Federal government to give more emphasis in the development for the rural areas in the 11th Malaysia Plan.
