Stop your weekend rhetoric and concentrate on helping out Sarawakians, Michael Tiang to Chong Chieng Jen

SUPP Central Youth Chief, Michael Tiang asked Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs Chong Chieng Jen to stop his empty rhetoric and concentrate on his real task, fighting for Sarawak rights.

Tiang pointed out that at every weekend Chong was back in Kuching, he would be fired up with his statements. “We have enough of statements already, stop playing politics and concentrate on the real core of what you are supposed to do as an MP,” he said.

In his press conference yesterday, Tiang wondered if Chong would support Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s proposal to have a special committee for talks on Malaysia Agrement 1963 (MA63) to be modeled along the line of Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC).

Instead of ‘firing’ up every time and reminding us that PH is the Federal government, something we all know which he did not have to spell out, he, Chong should instead focus his energy and effort to fight in Parliament for federal projects to be launched in Sarawak.

Besides monitoring and reviewing the contracts for RM29 billion on Pan Borneo Highway, has DAP Sarawak fought in the cabinet for any new federal roads to be built in Sarawak to accelerate Sarawak’s infrastructural development as well as to help stimulating the local economy? Through this, he said, will give Sarawakians more job opportunities instead of having to move away from Sarawak in search of greener pasture.

He stated that it was already 160 days since PH took over as Government and with a Minister and deputy Minister from Sarawak, there was yet any centric policies announced for Sarawakians. “What he should do too is to facilitate the return of autonomy to Sarawak’s Education and Health, as outlined in the PH’s election manifesto. We are all waiting,” he added.

Tiang also called to Chong to ensure that History books gave the actual facts of history which should include Sabah and Sarawak as without these two states, there will be no Malaysia. He recalled that during his Lan Berambeh anak Sarawak 2018, there were many young Sarawakians visiting them as SUPP had set up a booth there.

Many voiced their disappointment that Peninsular Malaysians were not aware of MA 63 and there was hardly anything on that in their History books. Tiang said, even the young Sarawakians claimed they did not have much knowledge on that part of history.
