SUPP on the bible issue
The bible issue has raised a number of questions on the integrity of the DAP in solving the issue for the very people who voted them into power.
Dato Sebastian Ting said after the Bibles were first seized on January 2 this year, the State Exco, Elizabeth Wong promised one week to return the Bibles, but till now there is still no sign of the Bibles being returned.
DAP is useless and cannot be trusted as evidenced by the action taken by BSM to move to Putrajaya where they felt that they could be better protected.
Where is YB Teresa Kok? asked Ting.
Sarawak DAP now realises that Selangor DAP is not able to solve this Bible issue as they are subservient to PKR and PAS, and not as equal partner as DAP wants people to believe.
In Sarawak, BN Sarawak Chairman and CM of Sarawak said very clearly and loudly. “There is no law in Sarawak to present the use of the word “Allah”.
Sarawak DAP knows and feels the difference between Selangor PR government and Sarawak Government on this issue. Sarawak DAP must be bold enough to criticise their DAP leaders in Peninsular Malaysia for their blunder and inability to solve this Bible issue.
SUPP has always been very consistent in our view on this Bible issue and on the usage of the word “Allah” in Sarawak.
The Christians in Sarawak will know and feel the difference in seeing and comparing the stand taken by PR government in Selangor of which DAP is the senior partner, and the stand taken by the BN Goverment in Sarawak on this Bible issue.
Youth central secretary, Wilfred Yap said it is with sadness and grief for SUPP Central Youth to see and hear the decision of the Bible Society Malaysia (BSM) moving its base from Petaling Jaya, Selangor to the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in an attempt to avoid potential hassles with Selangor State Islamic authorities in the future. This is despite the fact that Selangor is ruled by Pakatan Rakyat with a PKR Chief Minister at its helm.
BSM’s decision clearly shows that DAP, who obtained the majority of their votes from the Chinese, Indian and non-Muslim communities, cannot be relied upon to uphold their rights as BSM Chairman Lee Min Choon has rightly pointed out that Putrajaya/Federal Government which is under Barisan Nasional offered better protection in safeguarding the rights of religious minorities.
BSM Chairman Lee Min Choon also rightly stated that the PR Selangor Government with a PKR Chief Minister and numerous DAP legislative Executive Councilors could have stopped JAIS from raiding BSM’s office which resulted in the confiscation of the society’s Malay and Iban Bibles in the first place.
Yap pointed out that BSM’s decision to shift its base to Kuala Lumpur from Petaling Jaya, Selangor and PAS’s decision to table a Bill to allow the Kelantan State Government to implement Hudud laws clearly shows that DAP is merely all talk with no action (NATO) as DAP have failed to uphold the rights of minorities in a multi-cultural, multi-racial and multi-religious Malaysia. Both these incidents clearly shows that DAP is subservient to PKR and PAS and that DAP lacks political courage and political will to protect the rights of the very same people who voted them in the first place.
In fact, DAP outnumbered PKR and has just as much as PAS in terms of number of State Assembly Representatives in Selangor. In light of the ineffectiveness and inability of DAP to have their voice heard in Pakatan Rakyat, SUPP Central Youth Central Secretary General Wilfred Yap is of the opinion that DAP should do the right thing by pulling out from Pakatan Rakyat to show their sincerity to the Chinese, Indian and non-Muslim communities and also to prove that DAP is not a “toothless tiger” or “Pak Turut” within Pakatan Rakyat. DAP should not continue to betray the trust of the voters.
