Managing trafic through Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic system(SCAT)
Minister for Local Government, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian said Batu Kawa residents will not be facing traffic jams at peak hours once the Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic system(SCAT) is installed in two months time.
Dr Sim who went to the sites and JKR office with SUPP youths and JKR Divisional engineer, Awang Mohd Fadillah Awang Redzuan, said CCTV will be fixed at three traffic light junctions at Jalan Stephen Yong, Field Force and Desa Wira.
SCATS, said Dr. Sim is an intelligent traffic management used to synchronise traffic signals to optimise traffic flow in heavy traffic jam area.
To use SCATS there should be a SCATS-compatible traffic signal controller, a centralised computer system to manage all Traffic Signal controllers, a communication network for the centralised computer system and vehicle detectors at each intersection.
He explained that staff of JKR who are monitoring the CCTV will control the traffic lights in certain section e.g where there are more vehicles, the Green light will be adjusted on the spot to allow more time for the vehicles to pass through.
Dr. Sim said the Opposition is good at complaining about the traffic congestion in Batu Kawa which did not start when he took over. He added that it has been there for more than five years and during the election, they will shout about it. Once they won the election, everything quiet down expecting the road jam to be gone. Now that Batu Kawa is under us, the blame game has started, he said.
“I prefer to study the problem rather than argue over it.” He also urged Batu Kawa residents to be patience as the system will be fixed soon.
