The Publicity cum Information Secretary of the Sarawak United Peoples\u2019 Party Mr. Adam Yii\u00a0 has called on the MACC to inform the public the progress\u00a0 of the investigation into the alleged corruption of one of the Assistant Ministers in Sarawak.<\/p>\n

He said, the case had been reported for a period of time. However, no further\u00a0 report of the\u00a0 investigation had been released to the public. Adding that SUPP had\u00a0 expressed its concern over the investigation of the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the investigation revealed that the Assistant Minister was not\u00a0 involved in the alleged\u00a0 corruption, the MACC should clear the name of the said Assistant Minister. Otherwise, if there were concrete evidence of corruption, then the MACC should charge the Assistant Minister in a Court of Law. This action is very important. It not only proves the determination of the State Government to get rid of corrupt\u00a0 practices, it also\u00a0 helps to recover the independent status of the MACC and win back the\u00a0 public confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Yii stressed that SUPP does not want\u00a0 to see the\u00a0 long delay of the\u00a0 case or just swept the case under the carpet. The case had caught the general attention of the people.<\/p>\n

In his statement, Mr. Yii pointed out that\u00a0 SUPP has a firm stand on the fight against corrupt\u00a0 practices. The party fully supports the Chief Minister\u2019s series of actions against\u00a0 corruption in Sarawak, including actions\u00a0 against illegal logging and the eliminating of corrupt practices, aiming to establish a clean and efficient government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investigation into the alleged corruption and\u00a0 abuse of\u00a0 power by an Assistant\u00a0 Minister and a State Assemblyman reflected the independent status of MACC and its determination to fight against corruption. We shall stand behind the actions of the MACC, giving the agency all our support. However, the MACC ought to inform the public the\u00a0\u00a0 results of the\u00a0 investigation as soon as\u00a0 possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Yii added that the\u00a0 general public has for\u00a0 years maintained a negative attitude towards the work and actions of MACC against corrupt practices in the\u00a0 country.<\/p>\n

They felt that the MACC \u201ccan quickly close a small case of\u00a0 corruption, but when come to big cases,\u00a0 MACC seems\u00a0 helpless\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mr. Yii stressed that it is now the best time for MACC to prove its independence and gain\u00a0 public confidence.<\/p>\n

Mr. Adam Yii added that SUPP\u00a0 has always encouraged\u00a0 the general public to lodge report against corrupt practices they came across instead of turning them into political issues, making cheap publicity by some\u00a0 quarters.<\/p>\n
