{"id":49045,"date":"2026-08-11T12:54:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T04:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=49045"},"modified":"2026-08-28T12:54:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T04:54:32","slug":"ph-must-deliver-on-its-promises-says-supp-youth-wing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=49045","title":{"rendered":"PH must deliver on its promises, says SUPP Youth Wing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Section has called on DAPSY Stampin chief Sylvester Lim to stop shifting responsibility to the Sarawak government over issues involving the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), the 20% oil royalty and the return of 50% of federal tax revenue to Sarawak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement today, the youth section said the issues raised by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Datuk Wilfred Yap during his townhall debate with Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii were among the promises and commitments associated with Pakatan Harapan (PH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said GPS was part of the PH-led Federal Unity Government to fight for Sarawak&#8217;s rights and interests from within, but this did not mean GPS should remain silent when promises made by PH were not fulfilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If PH made the promises, PH must answer why they remain unfulfilled. It is therefore ironic for DAP to criticise GPS for asking the PH-led Federal Government to deliver what PH itself promised,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The youth section said the results achieved in Sarawak should also be taken into account, citing the state&#8217;s recognition of the UEC in 2015 following years of advocacy by SUPP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also pointed to the increase in the Article 112D Special Grant from about RM16 million to RM300 million and subsequently RM600 million, as negotiations continue towards a permanent formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The restoration of Bintulu Port as a Sarawak state port was also cited as another concrete outcome achieved through negotiations and representation by SUPP and GPS within the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Federal Government&#8217;s current UEC-related measure, the youth section said eligible students had been provided a pathway to apply for four Chinese-language programmes at Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it noted that the Ministry of Higher Education had stated that the measure did not amount to formal recognition of the UEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Instead of asking GPS why we speak up, DAP should ask its own PH-led Federal Government why these promises have not been delivered,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The youth section said PH leads the Federal Government and therefore should be accountable for the promises made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also called on Sarawakians to remain united under GPS in continuing to pursue the state&#8217;s rights and interests.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Section has called on DAPSY Stampin chief Sylvester Lim to stop shifting responsibility to the Sarawak government over issues involving the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), the 20% oil royalty and the return of 50% of federal tax revenue to Sarawak.
