Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said GPS already has its own system of checks and balances through its four component parties, and urged urban Sarawakians to consider giving the coalition a stronger mandate in the coming state election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said DAP Sarawak\u2019s acknowledgement that GPS was likely to form the next state government raised questions over whether electing more opposition representatives would benefit Sarawak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGPS consists of PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP, representing different communities and regions in Sarawak. This diversity ensures that various perspectives and community interests are represented within the coalition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap said the four component parties engaged in consultation, discussion and consensus on issues affecting Sarawak, providing internal checks and balances without compromising the unity and stability of the state government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe do not need to divide Sarawak politically in order to ensure that every community is heard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said Sarawak was at an important turning point under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, with the state pursuing its development agenda, strengthening its economy and asserting its rights and interests under MA63.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap said the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 was a vision for the whole of Sarawak, including its urban constituencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He questioned why urban voters should be encouraged to separate themselves politically from the wider Sarawak agenda when GPS already provided representation across communities and regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf GPS is going to form the next Sarawak Government, the sensible question is whether voters should use their votes to strengthen Sarawak\u2019s mandate or deliberately create a larger opposition bloc,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap stressed that while checks and balances were important, integrity, stability, continuity, unity and effective governance were equally necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSarawak needs a strong and united government capable of defending our rights, implementing our development agenda, attracting investment and negotiating with the Federal Government from a position of strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged urban voters to look beyond political slogans and consider the wider Sarawak First agenda by giving GPS a strong and united mandate, while allowing PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP to continue representing Sarawak\u2019s diverse communities and ensuring no community was left behind.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
