Deputy Minister for Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said communities should place equal emphasis on healthy living and educational excellence, as both are essential to the growth and development of society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said sports facilities not only help improve the environment but also encourage healthy lifestyles, strengthen friendships, and provide quality opportunities for employees and their families to spend time together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting said this in his speech after officiating the opening of the MIRIfm Recreation Club pickleball court at the Miri Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) station this morning and attending the presentation ceremony for the 2026 Academic and Co curricular Excellence Awards for members’ children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed satisfaction that the first phase of the MIRIfm Recreation Club pickleball court upgrading project had been successfully completed, attributing the achievement to the teamwork and dedication of RTM Miri staff and the organising committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting said he was pleased to have contributed RM4,000 towards the project and to see improvements made to the court, including upgraded lighting and enhancements to the overall environment, providing users with a safer and more comfortable sporting facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that as pickleball continues to gain popularity among people of all ages, the court is expected to become an important platform for strengthening community interaction and social cohesion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that preparations are underway for the second phase of the upgrading project, which will focus on installing drinking water facilities and other supporting infrastructure, and expressed hope that the initiative would continue to receive strong public support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Ting congratulated all students who received awards for excellence in academics and co curricular activities, saying their achievements reflected hard work, discipline and perseverance, as well as the unwavering support of their parents and teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said recognising students’ outstanding achievements would motivate them to continue striving for excellence while assuring them that their efforts are appreciated.
Ting encouraged students to pursue not only academic success but also develop good character, a sense of responsibility and leadership skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said these award recipients would one day become pillars of society, including professionals, entrepreneurs and contributors to the community.
Ting also thanked parents for their years of dedication and sacrifice, stressing that family support plays a crucial role in a child’s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
