Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has urged the public to remain cautious of what he described as Sarawak DAP\u2019s increasingly political tactics in politicising major development initiatives instead of contributing constructive proposals for Sarawak\u2019s long term progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap said recent statements and online narratives pushed by DAP leaders and supporters appeared aimed at creating doubt, negativity and confusion over major infrastructure projects initiated by the Sarawak Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, among the clearest examples were repeated criticisms and misleading narratives surrounding the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system and the proposed new international airport at Tanjung Embang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe ART project and the proposed new international airport are strategic long term infrastructure investments intended to transform Kuching and Sarawak\u2019s future economy, connectivity and competitiveness,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap said the ART system should not be viewed merely as a conventional bus service as portrayed by certain opposition leaders, but as a modern medium capacity transit system designed with dedicated and partially elevated lanes to improve mobility, reduce congestion and support future urban growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the project was already progressing in phases, with operational rollout expected from late 2026 under the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap also noted that both international and local observers had acknowledged the strategic importance of the hydrogen powered ART system as part of Sarawak\u2019s green energy and sustainable transportation ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the proposed new international airport at Tanjung Embang, Yap said the project reflected the GPS Sarawak Government\u2019s long term economic vision to position Kuching and Samarahan as a regional aviation and logistics hub integrated with modern transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe proposed airport is not an isolated project. It is planned together with ART connectivity, roads and supporting infrastructure that will stimulate economic growth, tourism, investments and employment opportunities for Sarawakians,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is a clear difference between responsible check and balance and irresponsible politicisation. Opposition should contribute ideas and solutions, not merely generate controversy and negativity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said Sarawak\u2019s transformation agenda under the GPS Government required stability, continuity and long term planning, particularly in public transportation, digital economy, green energy, logistics connectivity, aviation infrastructure and urban expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese are not projects designed only for today\u2019s headlines. These are investments for the next generation of Sarawakians,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap also reminded the public that many successful cities around the world were built because past leaders had the courage to invest in future infrastructure despite facing criticism during the early stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf previous generations feared change and opposed every major infrastructure proposal, many modern cities around the world would never have progressed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged Sarawakians to reject divisive and fear based political narratives aimed at undermining confidence in the State\u2019s future development direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
