Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said events such as the Sarawak Arts, Handicrafts and Music Carnival not only showcase Sarawak\u2019s rich and unique cultural heritage, but also help strengthen the creative economy while supporting local artists and performers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said this during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Sarawak Arts, Handicrafts and Music Carnival held at Imperial Mall in Miri yesterday. The carnival was jointly organised by JK Art & Culture Enterprise and SACHS Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ting, the carnival is a meaningful initiative that reflects Sarawak\u2019s continued efforts in preserving, promoting and elevating its cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis event brings together craftsmen, performers and creative practitioners from various regions, providing an excellent platform for cultural exchange, innovation and appreciation of the arts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that Sarawak\u2019s diverse cultures, traditions and artistic expressions are among the state\u2019s greatest strengths, and activities such as the carnival further promote cultural tourism and the development of the creative industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting said the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak continues to encourage more programmes that can promote cultural tourism and creative industries, viewing them as important drivers of economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese types of carnival activities not only contribute to the tourism sector, but also attract visitors and further position Sarawak as a key cultural tourism destination in the region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also commended JK Art & Culture Enterprise, SACHS Malaysia and all collaborating parties for their efforts and contributions in organising the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYour dedication in promoting arts, handicrafts and music culture is commendable and aligns with our shared goal of preserving and passing down our cultural heritage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting also encouraged the public to actively participate in the carnival to experience Sarawak\u2019s vibrant arts and culture while supporting the growth of local creative industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
