The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has successfully organised its first \u201cWaste to Bags MPP 2026\u201d programme as part of efforts to encourage sustainable living, reduce waste disposal and empower the local community through creative recycling initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MPP chairman, Tan Kai, said the programme brought together participants from across the Padawan area to learn how to transform unused materials, especially old jeans, into reusable bags with practical and commercial value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the initiative reflects the council\u2019s commitment towards promoting practical and creative approaches in waste management and environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cProgrammes such as \u2018Waste to Bags\u2019 not only help reduce waste generation but also provide opportunities for the community to learn new skills and potentially generate additional income through handmade products,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tan added that the programme also supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth, SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities, SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production, SDG 13 on climate action, and SDG 17 on partnerships for the goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the programme forms part of MPP\u2019s ongoing efforts to cultivate environmental responsibility and strengthen community participation in making Padawan a cleaner, greener and more sustainable municipality.
