The 2026 \u201cODEA Cup\u201d World Overseas Chinese Team Championship was officially declared open today, with Sarawak honoured to host the international tennis event that brings together players from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The speech of Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting was delivered by Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, who officiated the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Ting welcomed international teams, officials and guests to Sarawak, describing the event as a meaningful platform for competition, connection and shared passion for tennis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said hosting the championship reflects Sarawak\u2019s growing role in international sporting events while showcasing its hospitality, cultural diversity and natural attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor many visitors, this may be your first time in Kuching. While we may not be a large city, we make up for it with our warm hospitality, rich culture, delicious cuisine and beautiful natural environment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He encouraged participants to take the opportunity to explore Sarawak and experience its unique charm during their stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting also commended the young players for their dedication and determination, noting that competing at an international level requires courage, discipline and perseverance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery match is more than just a competition. It is a learning experience. What matters most is the spirit you bring, the respect you show and the resilience you build,\u201d he said.
He urged players to build friendships with participants from other countries, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and mutual understanding through sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, he invited all visitors to enjoy Sarawak\u2019s culture and hospitality, expressing hope they would leave with fond memories and become ambassadors for the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting also expressed appreciation to ODEA for its support and sponsorship, adding that the Sarawak Government remains committed to promoting sports development and strengthening international engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded by wishing all participants a safe, exciting and memorable tournament, and encouraged them to uphold sportsmanship and give their best in every match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
