An outpouring of public generosity over just 19 days has successfully raised more than RM200000, allowing two hearing impaired children to receive cochlear implant surgery here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The children, Andy Harrison, aged three, and four year old Flora Lee Kai Shuan, are scheduled to undergo the procedures at Miri Hospital by the end of April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Piasau State Assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said the fundraising effort drew encouraging support from both residents in Miri and contributors from outside the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He revealed that a total of RM232079.51 has been collected so far, which includes RM100000 from an anonymous donor as well as RM50000 contributed by the Miri Cochlear Implant Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith more than RM132000 channelled directly into the accounts, we now have sufficient funds to move forward with the surgeries for both children,\u201d he said during a press conference held at his office today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the association will oversee the funds to ensure they are used for the surgeries and follow up care, including rehabilitation and hearing training programmes after the operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
