Political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Kho Teck Wan called on MP Stampin, Chong Chieng Jen and DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) to focus on securing fair federal healthcare funding rather than shifting financial responsibilities to the Sarawak Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to DAP\u2019s proposal for the state to establish \u201cnon-profit private hospitals,\u201d Kho described it as an attempt to divert attention from the Federal Government\u2019s duty under the Constitution to provide healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHealthcare is a federal responsibility in accordance with the Federal Constitution. Sarawak already contributes significantly through oil and gas revenue, as well as income tax and State Sales Tax (SST) to Putrajaya,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGiven these substantial contributions, it is only fair that Sarawakians receive their rightful share of federal funding for healthcare. Sarawakians should not be asked to pay again for what the Federal Government is duty-bound to deliver,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kho said instead of asking Sarawak to use its own funds, DAP should advocate for equitable federal allocations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRather than expecting Sarawak to bear the cost three times through oil and gas contributions, taxes, and again from state coffers, DAP should focus on ensuring the Federal Government fulfils its obligations to all Malaysians, including Sarawakians,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also cautioned against creating unnecessary public divisions by framing a choice between healthcare and infrastructure development, saying both are essential for Sarawak\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs recognised globally, transportation and healthcare are both crucial pillars of development. Sarawak deserves modern infrastructure, including the ART system and a new airport, alongside better healthcare services, all funded fairly from our contributions to the nation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kho added that Sarawak should not be penalised for shortfalls at the federal level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
